I have written about Smart BRO and their utterly useless wireless broadband internet service on this blog before. I’ve decided to add to those earlier thoughts the fact that Smart is in fact a criminal enterprise. The company takes good money from people on its various UnliSurf plans – but fails to provide any form of acceptable service. When customers complain, they are routinely fobbed off with what can only be described as absolute bullshit by Smart customer support personnel. It is impossible to properly escalate legitimate service concerns and have them heard. It is all but impossible (and certainly outrageously impractical) to organize any form of refund from Smart. The reality is that Smart is little more than a criminal enterprise.

We are constantly hearing how important a social marketing strategy is for website promotion. SEO people talk about it but not many SEO people really understand its value and how to harness it. There are two aspects to a Social Marketing strategy which I will touch on.

Many businesses wanting to build or redevelop their website will look for a company to design their new site and focus most of the attention on the look and feel of the new site with its promotion taken for granted.

Traditional SEO has been focused on how to please Google so you can get to the “first page of Google” and forget about or basically ignore real visitors.  Early this year Google introduced massive changes to its algorithm that turned SEO on its ear.

Many people ask me what the difference is between SEO strategies and SEO tactics. It’s become apparent to me over the years that a lot of people view the two terms almost interchangeably, never realizing the important and not so subtle differences between the two. Here’s an explanation that I hope makes the differences clear to everyone who’s interested to learn more.

Anyone who has been reading up on SEO tactics has probably come cross references to heading Tags, or H Tags. Whilst there’s a lot of information online about H Tags, much of it isn’t really that helpful in terms of explaining what they are and what function they serve on a website. This article is not a technical one and is aimed at people who want to find some simple answers to those questions. In simple terms, a Heading Tag forms part of the HMTL on your webpage and tells search engines which general subject headings or categories are the most important or relevant on a given webpage. They can also make your website looked damned ugly and make it difficult for search engines to understand what your webpage is actually about if you’re not careful with them! More about that later.

We conduct keyword research, like most other companies, and in addition to basic keyword research we produce a Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) report on each selected keyword.

In the last couple of weeks there has been a change that the SEO world is literally in a spin over. Google, by its own admission, is effectively manipulating search results by favoring its own Google + social media product. With a user base of around 90 million or more (as at 19th January, 2012) using Google + already, I suspect that we have only just seen the beginning of this trend. There appears to be three very significant factors at play in the longer term that every webmaster needs to be paying close attention to if they wish to maintain their organic rankings in search.

As has been explained elsewhere our VisiBuzz system uses an army of real people using manually created profiles with no identifiable foot print to naturally generate all online activity from back link building to social signals needed for social proof.

Once in a while I get messages from people asking me about Linkvana. Linkvana is a blog submission service that we began using more than eighteen months ago as one small part of an overall link building strategy. Initially, we enjoyed some reasonable, if not remarkable results, so kept using the system fairly extensively. Little did we know that Linkvana had a huge and costly surprise in store for us.

It’s becoming clearer with every Google algorithm update that the search engine giant is becoming more reliant upon latent semantic indexing (or LSI for short). You can read more about LSI in other posts on this blog. To cut a long story short, LSI is an indexing and retrieval methodology that identifies patterns in the relationships between the concepts contained in an unstructured collection of text. In other words, Google is getting smarter.

Last week I gave Globe Tattoo Wireless Broadband a serve for their pathetic and useless wireless broadband offering. This week it’s the turn of their Philippines based competitor Smart BRO. Like Globe Tattoo, Smart BRO advertises high speed wireless broadband – a claim so far removed from reality as to verge on the hilarious – if you weren’t trying to use their network.

Last month when I was in the Philippines I needed some pre-paid, wireless broadband internet access. I went and spoke to a few ISP’s and Globe Tattoo seemed to offer a great service with their MyFi product, allowing me to share my wireless connection with my travel companion. The internet, being as poor as it often is in the Philippines, I asked some very specific questions about coverage before purchasing – here’s what happened.
